Designate is an interactive world map that allows individuals to pinpoint their favourite locations and show off the pictures they took there to tell their story; Why that place has meaning to them. The interface will operate as both a utility to explore, as well as a platform to share content such as photography, videography and text-based stories from across the world. Which is why this counter-mapping approach is beneficial.
The platform caters to people of all ages, but specific to those who are inclined towards travel/tourism and photography. The concept of the sharing layout and mechanics incentivize those who are passionate about this field to both share their content and stories, as well as find new places to see and explore. The overarching theme of the project is to highlight the beauty of our world from many different perspectives across hundreds of countries that users have lived/visited, and through sharing, encourage users to visit these new places.
A Google Form will be set-up to collect material from people across the world highlighting what the platform is and how they can collaborate. They will be asked to provide a file submission as well as a corresponding text-description to pin to a geographical location of their content. At least 50 submissions in total need to be accumulated in order for Designate to be launched and the perimeters are endless. We want to encourage everyone to share their content whether from their home-town or from an unknown corner street they’ve visited just once. Participants can further use this platform as a means to demonstrate their content as a portfolio.
